Coffeea Liberica – A completely different species of coffee to Arabica and Robusta is the story of a forgotten coffee being rediscovered by the owners of My Liberica coffee farm in Malaysia.
But it is not only a different species of coffee. It completely rewrites the Specialty Coffee rule book.
Specialty coffee can be grown successfully at low altitudes (even sea level in this case).
In 2014, the team at My Liberica invested in upgrades to their processing facilities which resulted in higher quality coffee. The next significant step was partnership with Project Origin in 2020. Sasa and the team brought years of hands on experience, and knowledge of specific innovative coffee production techniques such as carbonic maceration. It is no surprise that Australian barista Hugh Kelly benefitted from this partnership to place third at the 2021 World Barista Championships using Liberica. Liberica had arrived, and for everyone working at My Liberica, this was the ultimate reward and vindication of a decision made over a decade earlier to take a risk on a coffee that was far from popular at the time.
When you purchase Liberica, some of that money is being reinvested directly to the team at My Liberica so they can continue to improve and refine what they already have achieved.
